    Our theme this week is lower cost retirements - seizing opportunities no matter what hand you've been dealt. 
     
    New State Map. One of the really cool features of our new site design is a clickable state map. Click on a state and presto, you'll get detailed information about taxes and housing costs - plus a list of our best retirement towns in that state. 
     
    Darn that compass. Many thanks to the alert readers who corrected our error about the location of Mesquite, NV.  It is in the southeastern corner of Nevada, not the northeastern location that we gave it.
     
    Too many of us have ended up retired before we really wanted to. Or we took the gold watch and now regret it.  Discover our ideas for turning early retirement into your big opportunity
     
     
    California does have some lower cost retirement options, and Chico is one of them. Chico is located in the Sacramento River Valley, close to outstanding recreation - fishing, hiking, mountain biking, etc. Chico is the cultural and commercial capital of this part of California
     
     
    For an even better value in retirement, discover the hidden charms of  the "Cajun Capital City", Lafayette. This college town is one of the fastest growing cities in Louisiana - many other nice retirement towns are in the area too.  
     

     
    Chattanooga, TN
    Following up on our theme of lower cost retirements, we present Chattanooga.  A lot of folks from the northeast are checking out Tennessee because of its lower costs, friendly people, warmer weather, and outstanding recreation. Chattanooga offers all of those plus the attractions of a small city and a "21st Century Waterfront Plan".
